AHCIA Reaches a New Milestone with 200 House Co-Sponsors
As of December 13, the AHCIA (H.R. 3238/S. 1557) has received the support of nearly half of Congress at large.
Legislative Status: Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act
As of November 9, the AHCIA has reached 180 cosponsors in the House, maintaining strong bipartisan support with 90 Republicans and 90 Democrats.
AHCIA Legislation Gains Support from Over One-third of Congress
This month, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2023 reached 169 cosponsors in the House, maintaining strong bipartisan support with 84 Republicans and 85 Democrats. The Senate companion legislation has reached 27 cosponsors, with 14 Republicans, 12 Democrats and 1 Independent.

Major bipartisan U.S. Senate bill introduced to modernize and update rural housing programs
On May 1, Senators Tina Smith (D-MN) and Mike Rounds (R-SD) introduced the “Rural Housing Service Reform Act of 2023” (S.1389) in the U.S. Senate. The bill would aim to improve the housing programs administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service (RHS) through several reforms, including decoupling rental assistance from maturing mortgages, permanently establishing the Multifamily Housing Preservation and Revitalization Demonstration (MPR), making permanent the Native CDFI Relending pilot program, and improving staff training and capacity within RHS.

Affordable housing champions in Congress introduced the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA) of 2023 to strengthen and expand the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).
Senator Wyden Reintroduces DASH Act to Tackle Housing Affordability Crisis
Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore, introduced the Decent, Affordable Safe Housing for All (DASH) Act. The DASH Act would expand the production of affordable housing for low-income and middle-income families, create a new down payment tax credit for first-time homebuyers, expand essential services to ensure permanent housing stability, house all children and families experiencing homelessness through Housing Choice Vouchers.
