The NRP Group and the San Antonio Housing Authority held a virtual groundbreaking recently on The Legacy at Alazán, an 88-unit affordable apartment community project at the northwest corner of Colorado and El Paso Streets. The virtual groundbreaking featured the unveiling of a special community altar created by two local artists with contributions from community members.
The property will have one- to three-bedroom units, with 80 of the units earmarked as affordable housing. Of those, 40 will be public housing for households making less than 50% of the area median income, according to SAHA.
SAHA began meeting with residents of the Alazán neighborhood on San Antonio’s Westside in early 2018. The housing authority obtained 9% tax credits in July 2019 and closed on the development site with NRP this past June.
Construction is slated to be complete by spring 2022. Leasing is expected to begin next spring.
