The Office of the Governor has assigned Patrick Michaels as the new Budget and Policy Advisor overseeing housing—a portfolio that also includes technology and occupational licensing, areas he sees as closely connected through workforce, innovation, and capacity. In his introductory meeting with TAAHP leadership, Patrick expressed a strong interest in Texas’ affordable housing programs and the practical challenges that affect production, asking thoughtful questions and signaling a clear commitment to understanding the policy landscape. Given his role in shaping the Governor’s legislative and regulatory approach to housing, TAAHP has already begun building a collaborative relationship, sharing background materials and offering property tours to support ongoing engagement.
Before returning home to Texas, Patrick spent close to a decade in Washington, D.C., working in national policy roles in the U.S. Senate and at Beacon Global Strategies, where he focused on technology, workforce, and complex federal policy issues. TAAHP welcomes him back to Texas and looks forward to a strong and collaborative partnership.
