A new McKinney rental community will bring much-needed workforce housing. Ohio-based NRP Group is teaming up with the McKinney Housing Finance Corp to build the 205-unit, 249,353-square-foot apartment project at 2150 Collin McKinney Parkway, according to filings with the state of Texas.
Called McKinney Flats, the three-story, $42 million project was designed by Womack + Hampton Architects and will be in Craftsman style. The 12-acre affordable housing project is planned with 79% of the units available for residents earning 60% or less than the area’s average median income, according to Jason Arechiga, senior vice president of development at the NRP Group. Construction on the project is set to start in July with completion expected in March 2022. The first units will be available at the end of next year.
The city of McKinney approved the project in December.
The four-building rental community will include a resort-style pool, a business center, a clubhouse lounge, a laundry facility, picnic areas, a playground and a children’s activity room.
Cleveland-based NRP Group is one of the country’s top apartment builders, with a track record of building more than 33,000 rental units. The company currently manages more than 17,000 apartments.
NRP Group already has multiple projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in other major Texas markets.
