Good afternoon.  We wanted to make you aware of a significant hearing in the Senate Finance Committee that will take place tomorrow, Tuesday August 1,  at 10:00 a.m. EST entitled America’s Affordable Housing Crisis: Challenges and Solutions.   In convening the hearing, Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) hopes to shine a light on the growing affordability crisis in the United States.  “By bringing in experts in urban policy and housing, this hearing is an opportunity to learn more about what can be done to increase access to affordable housing,” Hatch said. “It will highlight challenges, as well as ways to encourage investment in our communities to give individuals and families with limited means the chance to find affordable housing.”

Our other LIHTC champion, Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), was the catalyst who encouraged the Chairman to hold the hearing and is hoping this will aid in our efforts to pass S. 548, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2017 of which she and Chairman Hatch are the lead sponsors.  As the House and Senate pivot to Tax Reform this hearing gives us an opportunity to highlight the need for more affordable housing resources and specifically, expansion of the LIHTC through the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2017.

You may watch the hear through the Finance Committee website at www.finance.senate.gov/hearings  or by clicking https://tinyurl.com/yaxxaplt  tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. EST.
