Several cities, including Dallas and McKinney, are asking Governor Greg Abbot to veto HB2439. The bill bars cities from mandating construction regulations that are above and beyond national codes. Many cities have passed rules requiring certain building materials, such as brick or stone, be used on exteriors — unnecessarily driving up the cost of housing in those communities and adding to the housing affordability crisis. TAAHP along with the Texas Association of Builders and Texas Apartment Association supported the bill that is now headed to the Governor’s desk.
