From Ozy

The statistics are now showing what Austinites have been warning for years, housing costs in the greater metro area are rising faster than incomes; increasing the cost burden for long-time residents. The average rent in Austin is now $1,300 — matching the average rent in Boston according to Rent Cafe. From 2007-2016, median rents in Austin rose nearly 22 percent, while incomes rose 25 percent. But from 2016-2017, median rent rose 1.1 percent while median income actually decreased by 0.8 percent.
