From Austin-American Statesman
Austin’s City Council has made affordable housing a priority. Through its latest endeavor, the Council approved a program that relaxes building codes for developers who wish to build high density developments so long as at least 50 percent of the community’s units are deemed “affordable” or reserved for households earning less than the area’s median household income (AMI). The AMI for the Austin area was $86,000 annually in 2018.
