From The Facts

Brazoria County is continuing to deal with housing, labor and water problems.

Gary Basinger, president and CEO of the Economic Development Alliance for Brazoria County, discussed these issues at a recent Associated Builders and Contractors Texas Gulf Coast/Association of Chemical Industry of Texas Membership Luncheon in Freeport.

Basinger says that people are buying homes in the northern part of the county and community and says city and county leaders prefer to keep those people local.

Affordable housing is a big priority for cities within the county but development is a time consuming process plus building is be slowed further with a shortage of labor.

Basinger says that the housing issue is particularly challenging right now because new jobs bringing in more people to work construction and at new plats coupled with baby boomers retiring all at the same time is “a perfect storm.”
