Tammye H. Treviño
Regional Administrator for Region VI

Tammye H. Treviño was sworn in as Regional Administrator for Region VI for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Monday, August 12, 2013, in Washington, DC, by HUD Deputy Secretary Maurice Jones. She has more than 25 years of experience in managing housing and economic development programs for underserved populations. From 2009 until her appointment at HUD, Ms. Treviño was the Administrator for Housing and Community Facilities Programs in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development agency. As Administrator, she managed national loan and grant programs for housing and community facilities to help rural communities and individuals, including grants for single family homes; apartments for low-income persons and the elderly; housing for farm laborers; childcare centers; hospitals, libraries and more. Ms. Treviño’s passion continues to be in providing housing opportunities to Americans who need access to affordable housing and want to achieve the American Dream of homeownership. From 1999 to 2009, Ms. Treviño served as chief executive officer for FUTURO, an Uvalde, Texas, non-profit organization that provides housing, business, community development and technical assistance. Previous to that, she was the economic development director for LaSalle County, Texas, where her accomplishments included converting a 47-county, South Texas think tank into a non-profit organization to work on regional economic development and other issues. Ms. Treviño is a certified Economic Development Finance Professional as well as a certified Housing Development Finance Professional. She received her Master of Business Administration degree from Sul Ross State University’s Rio Grande College, Uvalde, Texas, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Treviño is a native of Pearsall, Texas. She has four adult children.

NICHOLAS RAMON JR.
DEPUTY REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR FOR HUD’S SOUTHWEST REGION

FORT WORTH – U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Regional Administrator Tammye H. Treviño has announced that Nicolas Ramon Jr. has been named Deputy Regional Administrator for Region VI, which covers the states of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico. Mr. Ramon has been with HUD for more than 17 years and has a wide and varied background in HUD programs.

RA Treviño said, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Ramon as Region VI’s Deputy Regional Administrator. His experience and knowledge of HUD’s programs and partners, gained by working at both the community level and in HUD, gives him the perfect background to understand the challenges and opportunities facing our partners and HUD in the future.”

He began his career in the early 1970s in management positions in community-based nonprofit housing and community development organizations. He also managed community development departments in the cities of Brownsville and Houston, Texas. He joined HUD in September 1998 in the San Antonio Field Office as a Community Builder. In 2000, he accepted the position of Program Manager in the former HUD Dallas Field Office, and in 2003 he moved to the Fort Worth Regional Office. His immediate position before his promotion was that of Supervisory Management Analyst.

Mr. Ramon has served as the Acting Deputy Regional Administrator and Senior Advisor to the Regional Administrator in the Fort Worth Office and Region VI. He has also been the Acting Field Office Director for the former Dallas Field Office. In Fort Worth, he was instrumental in creating and facilitating the Region VI Interagency Council on Homelessness for the ten federal agencies collaboratively working on addressing homelessness in Region VI. He has been successful in federal-state-local partnership creation such as in “Money Follows the Person,” an HHS initiative helping the institutionalized disabled find housing in the community, and in coordinating the Region’s Sustainability, Community Needs Assessment and Operating Plan efforts.

Mr. Ramon was born in Donna, Texas, and graduated from Donna High School, Louise, Texas. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Pan American University of Edinburg, Texas, and a Master’s degree in Urban Studies from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Ramon is a veteran having served in the US Army from 1967 to 1970. In 1998, Mr. Ramon attended Executive Management Training at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

He is married to the former Maria Del Rosario Yanez Chavez. The Ramon family has three daughters, Judith R. Alonzo, Rebecca Michelle Foster and Fernanda Y. Ramon.

Mr. Ramon said, “I am honored to have been named the Deputy Regional Administrator. I have enjoyed my many years working for the Department, and believe they have prepared me for the challenges ahead for Region VI. I am committed to working with our clients and partners to achieve the Secretary’s goal of making HUD the “Department of Opportunity.”

Robert D. Dietz. Ph.D Chief Economist NAHB

Robert D. Dietz, Ph.D., is Chief Economist for NAHB, where his responsibilities include housing market analysis, residential construction industry forecasting and surveys, and housing policy research. Dr. Dietz has published academic research and testified before Congress on the private and social benefits of homeownership, federal tax expenditure estimation, and other housing and tax issues. Prior to joining NAHB in 2005, Robert worked as an economist for the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation and served as the committee’s housing and real estate expert.
