About half of mortgage holders and 69 percent of renters who responded to a Fannie Mae survey stated that they were not aware of recent measures to suspend foreclosures and evictions.
The CARES Act established that those who hold government-backed mortgages and have been impacted by the economic crisis could reduce or suspend payments. Renters living in units with government-backed financing cannot be evicted of penalized for missing payments until August 23. These protections cover about 70 percent of homeowners and 30 percent of renters.
However, Texas eviction proceedings resumed May 19 and foreclosure auctions resumed June 2.
