From Longview News Journal

The Longview News Journal is reporting that the Longview area, a small-town region in Northeast Texas is over 1,000 affordable housing units short of what its population needs. Karen Holt of Community Healthcore Housing Navigator, a local housing official, spoke to a group at the monthly Rotary Club about the issue. According to Holt, residents looking for a home need to make at least $17.50 an hour in order to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. The problem is the median area income is just $16.22 per hour according to 2018 statistics from the Federal Bureau of Labor and Statistics.

While there are already three housing tax credit affordable housing communities currently under construction in Longview, all three communities combined will deliver just 160 units when completed.
