About TAAHP Local & Municipal Affairs Community Advisory Groups

Launched in April 2024, Local and Municipal Affairs (LAMA) Community Advisory Groups are on a mission to ensure that TAAHP member interests are represented in cities and counties across the state. When you participate in a LAMA community advisory group, it’s not just a contribution, but a leveraging of your expertise at the local level of government (cities, counties, special districts) in Texas to positively affect affordable housing policy and regulation. The primary objective is to monitor, report, and provide expertise in a responsible and consistent manner, both proactively and in response to important actions by local governments where affordable housing development may be impacted.

At its inception, four LAMA Community Advisory Groups will represent the metro regions of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Each will be established and led by a TAAHP-designated member. LAMA community advisory groups have wide latitude regarding the issues they cover with respect to the local governments assigned. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • review and input on long-range development planning,
  • neighborhood planning,
  • charter reviews,
  • zoning,
  • RONO’s,
  • affordable housing policies,
  • general obligation bond packages for housing,
  • legislative agendas,
  • funding notices and proposal requests, etc.

These groups may also coordinate networking events and property tours for current and prospective TAAHP members and policymakers.

If you would like to participate in a LAMA group (aside from attending this networking event), please click here to complete this interest form and TAAHP will connect you to your selected region’s lead for upcoming events and meetings (you must be a TAAHP member to participate. If you are not already a member, you can join online at taahp.org/join.

If you have any questions about this initiative, please email [email protected] or [email protected].
