House leadership in both parties have announced new committee members for the 116th Congress, including committees that have responsibility for critical affordable housing and community development programs. The House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), has 11 new Democratic and 3 new Republican members. The House Financial Services Committee, which oversees critical affordable housing and community development programs at HUD, will add 16 Democrats and 5 Republicans. The House Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee, which funds government programs vital to affordable housing and community development, will not have any changes in membership.

Senate leadership also announced new committee assignments earlier this month. Senators James Lankford (R-OK), Steve Daines (R-MT), Todd Young (R-IN), Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) will join the Senate Finance Committee, which oversees the Housing Credit and NMTC. The Senate Banking Committee, which considers critical housing and community development programs at HUD, will add Republican Senators Martha McSally (R-AZ), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Tina Smith (D-MN) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). And Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) will remain Chair of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Subcommittee, which funds government programs vital to affordable housing and community development.
